Reasons for becoming a swinger
Reading many articles and participating in many swinging festivites I think the reasons for becoming a swinger can be narrowed down to a few basic ones:
1. To make enduring friends
2. Fullfilment of fantasies
3. Learn new and better techniques
4. Creating a mature & secure relationship
5. Experiement sexually without cheating

We certainly enjoy our friendships and of course we are able to broaden our fantasies and allow them to become realities. He have learned new techniques and shared some as well but I can't say they were better, simply new and exciting. Swinging has not made our relationship more mature or secure but it has made us more aware of how special we are together. It has allowed us to experiment with all of the above which we have enjoyed very much but our relationship would be as strong without it. We do not view swinging and cheating as being in the same arena.

We agree with all except #4, we are a mature cpl & very secure with our relationship. But totally agree with the rest! We started in the lifestyle meeting single men & it has progressed to single & cpls. We have fulfilled our fantasies, well most of them anyways! lol lol Our greatest accomplishment has been making friends in this lifestyle, whether we have played with them or not! Just getting to know people has brought us great joy! As we can talk about anything with our friends! xoxo Shirley |

As I read the original post, I was looking at the choices and sorting out in my head how those reasons played into Mine and Mr. 3's relationship. I knew what I thought, but didn't know exactly how to convey that in writing. Then I read your response Gin, and you hit the nail on the head. You said exactly what I thought and in a much better way than I could. I 110% agree completely with what you said. This is exactly how a healthy, swinging relationship should be.

I would honnestly have to say that #1,2 and 5 apply to us :). Mostly, we really do want to meet friendly couples that we can be ourselves around. It's so hard within our current circle of friends since you don't want to ruin any relationships or make them uncomfortable with lifestyle choices. We don't want to cause any friction if the wife or husband feels uncomfortable with sexual talk orflirtation. It's simply not worth it.
For us personally, sex doesn't even have to be part of the equation, simple conversation and harmless physical touching is fine for us as well.

We agree with you Sharon on all but #4. Maybe, for us anyway, to grow even closer and more mature Together in our relationship. We've been married for 19 years in June. We've been together 21. You would think you couldn't possibly learn anything more about your partner or grow any closer, but your wrong! Every day can be a new experience! That's the thing about real love, it's unconditional, and will never stop growing! Like a rose, love has many facets or petals and not all of those petals are revealed at once, but slowly over time as the rose opens and matures. Just my thoughts!

We started specifically to try the things we couldn't do together but have found we gained several things from our experience to date. For me it is self confidence. For us both it is learning and being more comfortable with our own sexuality as well as others and all the variety that sex offers. We are better able to communicate our desires without fear or shame. So I guess on the whole it has been personal growth for each us of us and us as a couple. |

There is a #6 my wife and I love to flirt and have fun, with and without touching. To be able to do that and still enjoy life, is what the lifestyle is to us. We also like the freedom to express ourselves and have fun doing it. There are way too many thin skinned people in the world that get offended by something said or done in jest. Sex is not the priority for us, it is the friendship and freedom we like so much. Get a bunch of naked people together telling jokes, flirting, and just having a good time, is the best relaxation on earth.
